State Representative Seth Lewis, R-Bartlett, issued the following statement after the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois announced an indictment of former House Speaker Michael J. Madigan on federal racketeering charges:

“Since the very first day of my time in office, I have pledged to be a strong voice in Springfield for ethics reform and government transparency. In fact, my first vote in office was to vote NO on electing Mike Madigan as Speaker of the House.

Myself and my colleagues have worked extremely hard to make ethics reform a top priority in the General Assembly. More often than not, those efforts have gone ignored.  The indictment of former Speaker Madigan shines a glaring light on the culture of corruption in our state government and proves that there is much work to be done to regain the trust of the Illinois public. I hope this can serve as a wake-up call to all and we can start to make some real progress towards ethics reform in the very near future.”

Representative Lewis represents the 45th House District, which includes all or portions of Addison, Bartlett, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Hanover Park, Itasca, Roselle, West Chicago, and Wood Dale in DuPage and Cook Counties.
